Organic Growers Club Project Work Dates Set

Our Organic Grower’s Club project has been officially approved by the OGC, and the first work date will be Sunday, October 28. We will be meeting at 1:00 pm in Kelly Engineering enter (north side entrance). From there we will carpool to the site. For the stragglers, you can meet us at the site, which is the second left after the golf course going east on Hwy 34. Here is a map.

A second work date is scheduled for Saturday, November 3, at 10:00 AM. We’ll meet at Kelley Engineering for for this one, too.

What to Bring

• Work gloves!
• Hammer if you have one
• Any tools you might think would be useful
• Munchies if you feel inclined!

The Plan

1. Overview of the design. We shall first review the design for the project to make sure everyone knows what we’re doing.
2. Safety talk – We don’t want anyone to hurt themself. If you do not feel comfortable using hand tools, let someone know.
3. Site cleanup. We need to make some space to work and clear the various debris lying around the site.
4. Measure, cut rafter extensions
5. Lay gravel for barrel foundations
6. Place cinder block foundations
7. Attach rafter extensions, fascia board
8. Cut holes in barrels, cut overflow pipes, fit barrels together, connect spigots.
9. Place barrels on foundations
10. Connect gutter downspouts to barrels
11. Profit! (Or, at least be happy that we did something good)
