Attending: Marshall, Kendra, Mikkel, Aparna, Luke, Adam, Brad
Mission Statement: Our vision is a world in which all communities have the capacity to meet their basic human needs.
Announcements/updates:
- Latest community calls
o Best way to talk to them is to tell them to get in a good service area, makes the call a lot better
o A couple of people from the village, went to Migori to the municipality of water
§ Got in touch with leadership there
§ Aparna is working to see how we can work with them
o They liked the idea of the crafts
o Have elected 3 people to leadership role to work with us
o Pictures on website now all have names
§ One of the pictures of a hut is a store
§ Aparna will talk to Justin to put on website
- Funding meeting
o Want to work to be more unified between projects
§ We are working towards the same thing
§ Didn’t get to anything official
§ Reusable bags
- Work spearheaded from Kenya project
o First order all money to Kenya after that money will be split
§ Banquet save the dates
- El Salvador will be sending invitations soon, bottom of letter will have line that explains a Kenya love dinner, saying that more info is on the website
§ Will talk about Kenya banquet during El Salvador banquet
§ We should all help where help is needed no matter the project
§ Water challenge
- Good way to bring both groups together
Assignments/personal updates:
- Everyone
o Deposit money from bike ride
o Think about activity that the community can do
§ So they know that we are committed and will actually come
- Crafts
o Whatever they are good at or interested in
§ Aparna will call them tonight and ask what they are interested in
- Data collection?
o Figure out if you want to go to regional conference
§ You should! It’s weekend of October 9th
- UC davis, registration soon

o Look into Keen shoes, see if they have any grant opportunities for us

§ Have heard back from a few groups in Kenya

Banquet (Group Breakout #1)

o Work on format a little bit more before we send off, have other people do that

Water Challenge (Group Breakout #2)

Grants (Group Breakout #3)
- EWB-USA grants Due September 30th)
o AIChE ($5,000, 1 grant)
§ Involvement of at least 2 AICheE members
§ AIChE student must complete a formal written project paper upon completion of assessment or implementation trip
- We have two people
- Have 512 done, email application to Kendra, and Mikkel
o Have 3 people in AIChE from El Salvador project
o ASCE ($4000, 1 grant)
§ Hand over to Adam
§ Civil grant
o Boeing: ($135,000, 10-15 grants)
§ Projects that are located in India or are environmental is scope will only be considered for funding. If you have questions about whether your project qualifies, please email Grants at EWB-USA.
§ Examples of environmental projects: sourcewater protection, alternative energy, composting latrines, water reuse/graywater management, trash management, agroforestry, fuel efficient stoves
§ Consider forestry project first
- College of forestry interested in helping with this
§ Aparna will look into
o Penetron ($5000, 1 grant)
§ Only water project eligible

§ Preference for projects where concrete materials will be implemented
§ 3 page application, short paragraph

§ Two or more active members of the Project Team are Material Advantage and student members in good standing
§ Project must exhibit Materials Science and Engineering principles; see TMS grant application for more detailed eligibility requirements.
