• Travelers meeting
  • Postponed
    • Person coming in from Mercycorp to discuss culture
    • Travelers meeting will be next Tuesday so general Kenya meeting time needs to change
      • Any other days?
      • Skip a meeting?
        • No because we can catch up with people and make sure they are doing their assignments
        • meeting next week; Wednesday at 7 pm

        • Yes, his name is Lawrence Osugo and Mark has taken a  picture of him
        • Don’t know how to find him yet
        • Mark’s friend in Kisii is Father Arnold
      • Which hotel will we stay at?
        • Hotels near the airport are pricey so travelers will be staying close to the bus stop
        • Will tell us name  after he talks to his friend
      • How often do buses run from Nairobi to Migori
        • Very often throughout the day
          • About every 2 hours depending on how fast they fill up
          • It should be easy to purchase a cell phone for about 40-50 dollars
      • Will the community expect us to go to church with them
        • No, he didn’t think so
        • He said we could stay at home and it would be up to us
        • If we would like we could ask to go with them and that would be fine
      • Will his friend meet us in Nairobi on our return from Migori
        • Yes
      • What is the latrine, toiletpaper, shower situation?
        • Latrines are outside of the homes and are non-flushing
        • He thought it was a funny question
        • Toilet paper can be purchased there and didn’t give details on how to dispose of it
        • There are showers, and he took pictures of them and the latrines

    • Kendra = $250 – 300
    • Justin = $300

• Other updates
  • El Salvador
    • Planning a run
      • Downtown Corvallis and looping around
      • Legitimate 5k or more
      • Maybe work with them
        • Won’t work with them quite yet
      • Would be in the fall
        • But might change because of their banquet in the fall
  • National Ground water association of America
    • Accepts grant proposal all year max $5000
      • If we implement a well this will be a good grant
        • A well will probably be part of the solution
        • Maybe some one work on it now
        • Make sure we are eligible, and make sure we ask correct questions for community

  • Kenya donor database started
    • All 9 of Aparna’s donors included
    • Maybe not share with everyone
      • History with really involved people and then they disappear
        • Some donors only give because of one member
    • Need to keep updated to make sure we send updates of progress
    • Company donations keep for everyone to share
    • all donors in one place so we can mass send pictures and such
    • Adam taking it on to send his own family updates
      • Wanted it to be more personal
    • Maybe have a column for only personal contact
    • Rob has envelopes of who has sent us donations
    • The more we remove this from our group the harder it will be to get a hold of
    • Problem with Aparna being only person that has this?

  • Haven’t heard anything from sister, she will get to it late this week

Banquet/Fundraising

  • Venue, figure out which one this week
    • Wait until have several venues to pick from
  • Catering
    • Find a place with kitchen bring in own food, save us a lot of money
    • Typical caterer; $50 a head, from one of venues that make you use one of their caterers
      • We emailed ecotrust and told they us we have to use their caterers
    • Find options now that wont make us use their caterers
    • Contact PSU and professionals to get help with venues
      • We have already told them we are having a banquet
      • One woman really into planning this from professionals
      • Justin will get into contact with Portland professionals
        • Contact new president to direct who to contact
        • And Kelly will look around
  • Entertainment options besides African association
  • Alot of publicity, then good venue, not good publicity then not as good venue
    • goal is to get good publicity
    • Adam will be able to get media contact probably
    • PSU and professionals canceled banquet for this year because of economy
      • This will be only EWB banquet in Portland this year
    • Getting info out early is biggest point
