EWB notes – Kenya break-out
10/08/09
General information about Kenya project
-deforestation
-water treatment
-selection process for interested members
-heavily based upon club involvement
-communicate with the community about once a week by phone
December assessment project
-GPS surveying
Last Thursday phone call
-late between 10 and midnight
-if interested in participating contact Aparna
-tonight or Monday night
New developments from phone call
-community contacted municipality in Migori (closest town)
-got price estimates on digging and installing a well through municipality
-1 million shillings (1 dollar = 70-80 shillings)
-very simple farmers, not sure about having them help by making crafts
Banquet check for venue due
Fundraising ideas
-Krispy Kreme sale Monday 12th
 
Brainstorming:
  • Pledges for a bike/marathon
  • Water challenge
  • Basketball or sport tournament
  • Ask companies to have a “donate change to SWE” box
  • Percent donations at Jamba Juice or other restaurants
  • Intermission of events to sell baked goods, OSU theater group
  • 13 gallon challenge, live with 13 gallons of water a day with sponsors
