2009-10 Officer Candidate Statements
Scott Crook, candidate for President
My involvement with EWB started about halfway through my freshman year when I began regularly attending meetings for the Salvador Project. Since then, I have slowly taken on more responsibility on the project, even co-leading the implementation trip this past December. I believe my experience working in project teams will give me a great perspective while serving as president, because after all, projects are what EWB was formed for. Additionally, I attended the national conference for EWB which gave me many insights as to how other chapters are operating and the general direction of EWB as a whole. Returning from this conference, I have a much better idea on how the directive side of a chapter can be run to benefit the members and projects. If I were to become president, the immediate priorities for the club would be improving our financial health, widening our membership to include younger students, and facilitating development in the next generation of our chapter’s leaders.
Adam August, candidate for Vice President
My name is Adam August and I am a nominee for the Vice President position of EWB-OSU. If voted in to office I would work closely with the President and the rest of EWB-OSU to try and strengthen our chapter in numbers, fundraising capability, and general public awareness. I am a good coordinator and could take on the challenges of organizing fund raising events, speaker meetings, workshops, or other EWB activities. I would also work with Evan this term to gain insight on his experience as Vice President and the challenges he faced. I believe full heartedly in EWB’s mission and want to play a role in helping make that mission a reality.
Jessica Varin, candidate for Vice President
Lyndsey Croghan, candidate for Treasurer
I’m running for treasurer because I feel that I have the necessary experience and I would like to be more involved with EWB at the board level. As far as experience goes, I was treasurer for the OSU section of Society of Women Engineers and have learned how to manage their accounts over the past couple of years. Combined with my three years with EWB-OSU and how the organization manages its money, I have a good understanding of where we are headed and how our budget factors in. In addition, I look forward to the possibility of contributing my ideas to EWB as a voting board member.
Nick Moses, candidate for Secretary
I’ve been involved with EWB for about a year and a half. I started organizing EWB volunteers to work on a Habitat for Humanity house in Fall of 2007. I have also been involved in the El Salvador project, traveling last December and heading up the design team for upcoming trips. I would be in a good position to keep the project team in touch with the board, as it is evident from the serious overspending on the last implementation trip that we need better contact between the two. Finally I have been secretary this year, and have an understand of how the board works.
By continuing as secretary next year I can contribute strongly to EWB again.
