1. Officers for 09-10:
- President: Scott Crook
- Vice President: Adam August
- Treasurer: Lyndsey Croghan
- Secretary: Nick Moses
2. Krispy Kreme fundraiser is tomorrow.
- We need volunteers from 9-2.
- $1/donut, $10/dozen.
- We have a tent and table.
- Michelle and Jessica will help make a sign tonight.
- We will set up on Monroe in the University Christian Center parking lot.
- We have 25 dozen donuts
3. Basketball tournament fundraiser for the Kenya project: is in the works
4. El Salvador update
- We are currently planning for future trips as funds are low.
- We have been working on possible tank designs and hydraulics for the pipeline, as well as the next TAC report.
5. Kenya update
- They are working on ideas for fundraising only right now.
- These include a middle school curriculum project, basketball tournament, and Greek system donation.
General meeting changes:
- No Pizza at tonights meeting in the interest of our budget. We will have something else to replace it in upcoming meetings.
- We will start combining meetings. Project teams will meet with the general group then break off to work on their own projects after a short general meeting. We will have fewer presentations.
Tonight:
Speaker: Gary from H2O for life.
- They go to Guatemala every winter to drill wells.
- He sees an opportunity for EWB to help with engineering or use their equipment in Guatemala.
- They have used merry go round pumps to draw up water. We might be able to find a better pump.
- People also still want water closer to their houses.
- The have been drilling for five years and working in Guatemala for 12 years total.
- Wells have been drilled in 5 villages this year. They need better way to get water out of deep holes.
- Medical bills down 70% this year with well water in an orphanage.
- The also build concrete water reservoirs. The forms are still there for anyone to use.
- They also have housing and trucks available for us to use.
- Since a well was put in in one community a year ago there have been no infant deaths
- However, there is no sewer system in most of these places.
- There are 260 villages within 30km of their base of operations, so there is plenty of work
- Most of their money comes from fundraising, donations, and other entities that want to help (churches, etc)
