Board Meeting 4/8/09

1. Dr Boston and Carl have proposed selling cookies/lunch items outside of Kearney.

• Carl made up a spreadsheet with costs vs. revenue. We could potentially make a couple hundred per week for the general fund.
• Evan-The University has stricter regulations for selling things we make (i.e. coffee)
• Kelley-We might need a food handlers license
• They are available for $15 online

2. PSU is offering a solar power for pumping in rural areas technical training for $190 per person ( for four people, it might be 250 if we send less) Apr. 17-19,

• Should the chapter subsidize for students?
• We will ask students to pay $100 out of whatever the final cost may be and cover the rest, with the caveat that they really have to come back and distribute the info to us.
• If anyone else is willing to pay, they can go, but we either have to randomly assign scholarships to two people or have some kind of election procedure. We want to choose people that will be committed.
• We will ask for 200 word application addressing future commitment and willingness to disseminate info.

3. Wilderness first aid is offered twice this term for $200 for students.

• We will announce it but not offer support, we don’t have the money right now.

4. We won’t know if we got the Kenya project until the first week of May.

• Aparna would like to work faster than we have on other projects. Should we have meetings before we know if we have it or not?
• Kelley-We shouldn’t start fundraising
• Evan-most of people interested aren’t doing much else with EWB, so this could hook them in.
• They could figure out what we want to do in an assessment: health question’s, etc.
• An assessment trip at the end of summer would be ideal. We have a very good deal with American Express.  Tickets now are about 1200 a person.
• There are a few people that would be willing to work on it over the summer.
